There are several reasons why people choose to take a train journey on the Trans-Siberian Railway. The scenery is amazing, and so is the experience of crossing one of the world's longest stretches without roads, cars or any form of motorized transportation. For this particular rail visit, you will be exploring Russian and Mongolian landscapes all while taking in some spectacular points of interest and historical tourist attractions that you would not otherwise get to see on a regular train ride. The Siberian landscape weaves together diverse natural habitats—from taiga forests to grasslands and desert steppes. Despite its vast size, Siberia is home to some of the world's most interesting wildlife. Looking forward to its wildlife? The journey is divided into four categories: Between Moscow and Vladivostok, guests will travel through nine time zones. The trip takes eight days for the Trans-Siberian Express (one day less if you choose the shorter option). The additional one day spent aboard trains between Moscow and Moscow puts you at least six hours behind Moscow time. Guests also have the option of switching from the regular train to the express one at any point along your route, or staying with the slower train altogether. The second option is the most economical option, but it would take you two days longer than the regular train. The Trans-Mongolian railway, on the other hand, takes approximately five days of continuous travelling to cover its 4,034 km distance. The difference between these two routes is that the Trans-Mongolian route goes through Mongolia instead of Russia. However, this route also crosses Russia's busy transcontinental waterways en route to Mongolia—an alternate crossing called Baikal-Amur Mainline (BAM). BAM was built in the 1960s and traverses through some of Russia's most remote areas en route to Russia's Far East. The first stop on your journey is Moscow, a lively city that seems to keep its pulse forever racing. With a population of more than 12 million people, Moscow is the largest city in Europe. It is home to the Kremlin and the Red Square, as well as one of Russia's most visited museums: The Hermitage. This vast museum covers as much as 5,000 years of Russian art and culture. Connecting between Moscow and Irkutsk, China is a 15-hour train ride that covers a distance of 1,000 km through the Trans-Baikal region of Russian Siberia. This is the best time to catch a glimpse of Russia's natural landscapes and wildlife, as well as its diverse Siberian indigenous tribes. The train ride will take you through the Trans-Baikal area, which is an area filled with lakes and rivers. The first notable destination on your itinerary after Irkutsk is Lake Baikal, located in Western Siberia. It holds 20 percent of the world's freshwater and never freezes over. Many guests who visit Lake Baikal enjoy taking a boat tour around its beautiful waters, or a ride along the famous "Boat Line" that runs along both sides of the lake. cfa1e77820
